The
Canadian Business English Institute opened at its present downtown
Vancouver location in January 1991. Since then, we have had thousands
of satisfied graduates from all over the world. CBEI is registered
with the Ministry of Education and is approved by Canada Immigration
to accept international students. Our students come from Western
and Eastern Europe, Asia, Mexico, South America, and the Middle
East.
Our school is located in Vancouvers downtown business and
financial district, yet close to restaurants, shops and theatres.

> English for Work and Business
The EWB (Business English) program has three main courses:
Business Writing, Business Oral Skills, and Business Concepts.
These courses will give you 25 hours of instruction per week.
To get extra practice, you can also choose additional courses:
Pronunciation and Oral Fluency, TOEFL or TOEIC practice, and
Private Lessons. Certificate and Diploma programs are available.
- Business
Writing
You will learn to write clear and appropriate sentences,
paragraphs, letters, faxes, memos, resumes, and reports.
You will also improve your business English vocabulary and
receive feedback about your grammar.
- Business
Oral Skills
You will learn interpersonal communication skills for meetings,
interviews, presentations, negotiations, etc. You will learn
to communicate in English with confidence, yet politely
and firmly. Your class speeches and presentations will be
videotaped for faster learning.
- Business
Concepts
You will explore various business related concepts (marketing,
finance, management, international trade, globalization,
etc.), and review the principles of business and cultural
differences in international communication. You will work
on individual and group projects, give presentations, go
on business field trips, and work on practical case studies.

Business English Practicum (Internship)
This program offers a practicum placement in a Canadian company
to the graduates of our Business English program. CBEI will
match you with a company that fits your education, experience,
and your career goals. For example, our students have been
placed in international trading companies, accounting and
insurance companies, banks, travel agencies, etc. The placements
of students for this program are done very carefully and with
respect for the hosting companies.

Requirements
All students who enroll in the Business English Practicum
program are graduates from our Business English program,
and are at the advanced level of English proficiency. The
students must be mature, and be willing to give a firm commitment
to the hosting company.

of the Practicum
Through the Business English Practicum program you will
able to practice the skills that you have learned in your
Business English program. You will gain real working knowledge
of English communication skills as they are used in the
North American corporate environment. You will also learn
about Canadian business practices, and gain a valuable international
experience.

> General English (English Prep)
The General English program has three main courses: Writing

- Program
Schedule
All CBEI programs are offered all year round, from early January
to late December. The academic year is divided into 4 program
semesters, each semester is 12 weeks, but you can start your courses
any month of the year. Depending on your English level and your
selection of courses, you can study at CBEI from 1 month up to
12 months. Once you are at the advance English level, you can
enter the Business English Practicum program, or transfer to our
partner business or academic colleges.
- Monthly
Registrations
If you don't have the time for a 12 week semester (or longer studies),
or the semester dates are not convenient for you, you can take
advantage of our flexible monthly registration. Our program
is modular, and can be entered at any month. Minimum registration
is for 1 month, and you can study for as many months as fits your
schedule (for up to 12 months, depending on your English level).
Monthly Registration is usually on the 1st Monday of the month.

Calendar 2003
The Course Calendar applies to all CBEI programs. Although the
calendar is divided into four semesters, you can start your studies
any month.
